American Banker hires de Wet as managing editor

Mary de Wet

Mary de Wet has been hired as managing editor of American Banker.

She previously was Americas chief editor for Dow Jones Newswires.

De Wet spent more than 24 years at Dow Jones and The Wall Street Journal, including a time as assistant managing editor of resources, overseeing a team of metals, energy and agricultural commodities, reporting breaking news in real time on multiple platforms for The Journal. She also was an assistant news editor on the money desk.

She previously worked at the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle and Odessa American in editing roles.

De Wet is a graduate of Lousiana State University.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
