We’re looking for an editor to join our award-winning editorial team and help re-imagine our coverage of money, personal finance, business and the economy. The ideal candidate is both a collaborative team player and a self-starter who has worked in a deadline-driven, digital-first environment. This is our first hire for a re-launched Money section (previously called Economy & Innovation) and will play a key role in helping to shape it.
Responsibilities
Monitor news, trends, and issues within business, the economy, and personal finance subject areas to pitch and assign stories that make complex and contradictory issues make sense for our readers, challenge conventional wisdom, and empower readers to make sound decisions about money.
Responsible for writing, assigning, and editing the work of freelance writers
Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with a network of freelance and staff writers.
In collaboration with the editorial leadership, you will develop and implement a multi-pronged editorial strategy to maximize search, social, and recirculation traffic.
Requirements
5+ years of professional journalism experience, with a focus on business or finance reporting (cryptocurrency experience is a plus).
Strong writing skills for digital publications.
Excellent editing, fact-checking, and proofreading skills, with expertise in AP Style.
Knowledge of professional journalism standards and best practices.
Understanding of Salon’s voice and editorial mission.
Proficiency in digital analytics tools (e.g., Chartbeat) and CMS.
Effective communication skills.
Excellent time management skills.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent newsroom training.
