Biz editing tips

I found this great list of tips of common mistakes in business stories and other advice on editing business stories on a copy editing Web site, so I am forwarding it on here.

There are some great suggestions and advice. I like the one about inflation in particular. It’s one I see all the time.

  • Thank you, Chris, for passing this along. I'm sharing it with my colleagues (especially those who teach editing) and my students. This is exactly the kind of thing that makes this blog valuable to anyone who edits or writes business stories. I like No. 2 on the list -- mistaking millions for billions. I've seen that, too, and it's not easy for a copy editor to catch without seeing the documents. That didn't happen often when I was a copy editor. So, please keep stuff like this coming!
